Something to note: Council does offer payment plans for the registration fee. Families can choose a single one-time payment or spread out payments over two, three, or even four months. (September-December). Financial assistance (up to 50% off) will also be available to families that qualify. Pack dues cover the cost of awards, recognition, program and events.
Our pack has several fundraising opportunities to help offset these costs.
Structure of Scouting
Here's a breakdown of the structure of scouting.
Dens: The smallest group of scouts where each scout is in the same grade. Each den has at least a Den Leader (and sometimes an Assistant Den Leader). These leaders are usually parents of scouts in the den. Dens meet together generally 1-2 times every month to do various activities and complete requirements toward advancement to the next rank.
Pack: When all of our dens come together, they form our pack. We usually meet as a pack once or twice every month to participate in fun events or pack meetings. Pack meetings are where scouts are recognized for awards earned and are usually planned and led by the Cubmaster.
Committee: Pack leadership and committee members come together and form the committee. Committee meetings are led by the Committee Chair and are held once every month to get updates on everything happening within the pack and to discuss upcoming activities and events.
District: The Iron Horse District is the group of packs in the Olathe, Spring Hill, DeSoto, and Gardner school districts.
Council: The Heart of America Council is composed of several districts in the Kansas City Area.
Ranks that can be earned in Cub Scouts
As you progress from grade to grade, you will work on adventures required for each rank below. Requirements for each rank consist of age-appropriate activities in many areas (STEM, nature, community and country).
Bobcat
Once you start Cub Scouts, regardless of age, the first rank you earn is Bobcat. Here you will learn the basics of what it means to be a cub scout.
